Ms. Silvers earned a Bachelor of Science in History and Education from Austin Peay State University in 2014.

Ms. Cassandra Silvers

Ms. Silvers is certified in History, Social Studies and Earth & Space Science. She taught History for three years in a traditional high school in Tennessee and for two years at an alternative school in Washington State. The 2019-2020 school year was her first year in Florida, and she loves teaching at The Academy! Ms. Silvers currently teaches Environmental Science, American Government, and Economics. Her goal is to inspire her students to take an active role in working towards and promoting sustainability on our campus and throughout our community, and becoming well-informed, productive, and actively participating members of our society.

  • Environmental Science:
    This course is designed to give students a hands-on, real-life experience into the world around them.  Environmental science is a multidisciplinary field that draws from all the sciences, and additional other fields to help us better understand how the world works, as well as the relationship between humans and the world in which we live. Students will have the opportunity to conduct hands-on experiments, labs, and contribute to school and community beautification recycling, gardening, and community service projects! The goal of this course is to inspire students to take an active role in identifying environmental issues and discover ways to solve those problems in order to achieve a sustainable future on this planet. A minimum of 4 community service hours will be required in order to complete this course.

     

    American Government:
    This course is about Government - and, more particularly, about our government in the United States. The Preamble to the U.S. Constitution begins with the phrase, "We the People of The United States." As a citizen, you are an important member of the "We." For that reason alone, you should know as much as you possible can about government. Government affects you in an uncountable number of very important ways. It does so today, it did so yesterday, and or will do so every day for the rest of your life. This course is designed to give students a better understanding of the functions, roles, and powers of our government, and to give students the tools needed to participate in the political process as a productive and well-informed member of society.
     
     
    Economics:
    Economics is a course that is easily misidentified as "the study of money" or how to get rich or how to use the stock market. While those may be aspects of economics, what economists really study is how people make choices. As a person who makes choices every day, you, too, use economics every day! There is an opportunity cost to every decision you make. This course will focus on aspects of economics including scarcity of resources, opportunity costs, types of economics, the function of money, budgeting, and many other topics.
